About

if you know, you know.

Russ & Daughters is a family-owned culinary icon, world-famous for the highest-quality appetizing foods: smoked fish, caviar, bagels, bialys, babka, and more Jewish delicacies.

It all started when…

The story of Russ & Daughters begins in a herring barrel. In 1907, Joel Russ, a Jewish immigrant from Poland, peddled the cured fish from a pushcart until he saved enough to open an appetizing shop in New York’s Lower East Side in 1914. Today, Russ & Daughters remains a culinary icon, world-famous for the highest-quality appetizing foods: smoked fish, caviar, bagels, bialys, babka, and more Jewish delicacies. The original shop on East Houston Street is enshrined as a New York treasure, and reflects four generations of the Russ family’s dedication to excellence, history, and tradition. It is also the first known American business with “& Daughters” in its name.
